In
many wards of Pokhara there is no supply of piped water. People
have to undertake a hazardous journey to the river springs to collect
drinking water.
Children have died while fetching
water from the springs near the river.
We are working with the local water
corporation and private boring companies to try and restore/bring
water supplies to areas, which currently have no running water.
So far we have been able, by repairing
and replacing faulty pipe work, to bring water to a tank in Rato
Paiera, and provide a water tank for the local kindergarten school;
now they have fresh drinking water every day.
We are now focusing our efforts on
two tanks in the adjacent Hunamantol region. One of which stands
empty and the other suffers from bad leaks and the possibility of
its current supply ceasing within the next year or so. This would
affect some 300 families in that community.
Your donations will enable us to
connect the empty tank to a bored water supply and to secure the
continued supply to this existing magnificent 40,000-litre tank,
and help with its refurbishment.
If we cannot achieve this, then every
day women and children will have to risk their lives to carry water
up the steep 200 feet slopes to bring water for cooking and drinking.
Thank you for your help.
